The evening included welcoming activities, followed by encouraging and humorous presentations from each year group. It was closed off with refreshments for all.
The second years got the ball rolling with an informative look at the giants the first year’s may face entering this new chapter of their lives. They used David fighting Goliath as an example and how he carefully selected the stones with which he was going to slay the giant. Practical examples like assignments, deadlines, procrastinating and harboring sin in one’s heart, as well as other possible giants were mentioned. Different stones can be used to tackle the different giants – we need faith, and a close relationship with our Lord, sin needs to be exposed and brought to the light.
Encouraging the first years to become a united team, the third years depicted a linked chain to represent this theme. Since this college aims in training missionary teachers, the unity among each other as well as with other believers is an important characteristic which we would like to pass on to our students.
With a comical twist, the fourth year’s staged a puppet show, introducing different lectures and duties that form part of life at College.
To close off the evening, the stage was given to the first years to introduce themselves. They did so by means of a quiz to test the audience’s knowledge of each first year.
As the Cultural Committee, we trust that the first years feel well-equipped for the year ahead.
