Welcome
Cedar College of Education is a
Christian teachers training college located on a Mission Station,
Kwasizabantu near Durban. The college is affiliated with the North West
University which is one of the largest Universities in South Africa.
Students not only gain academically but also find their focus on
community activities and support. It is a four year degree course with
practical orientated experience.
Message from the
Director
The need for Christian teachers increases
year by year. As secular humanist philosophy captures school systems, it
is crucial that Bible-believing educators seek to spread the Light of
the Gospel through their profession. Cedar College of Education is there
to equip them for this ministry. Our prayer is that each CCE graduate
would be an effective instrument in God's hands.

Graduation 2008

This 11th Graduation at CCE was a memorable occasion. We
were honoured with the presence of three leading dignitaries from NWU,
amongst whom was the Vice-Director, Academic of NWU, Prof Mariėtte Lowes.
She was also the guest speaker for the evening.

New First Years for
2008

Cedar College of Education is growing as the
Lord gives growth. At the end of 2007, it was evident that
the college will need to expand its premises as more and more students
from various culture groups and countries apply to study at a Christian
institution.
This year it is again a new record
number of first year enrolments. Students represent the following
countries: Romania, France, DRC,
Burundi, Sudan and various language and cultural groups from within our
own borders. It is truly the 'rainbow college' with already more than
10 different cultural groups in one year group! Two more students
- from Malawi and Namibia respectively - are being expected to join the CCE student body should they manage to overcome some logistical
barriers.
We acknowledge God's hand in selecting all
these students, as CCE does not actively recruit students, only by
committing the matter to the Lord in prayer. We exist to carry out the
mission of Christ in Higher Education and our prayer is that CCE's
future will be "as the shining light, that shines more and more to the
perfect day". Prov 4:18
Fourth Year Farewell

The Fourth Year Farewell function
was held on the sunny afternoon of 18 November. The Three Musketeers and
the Queen arrived dressed for the occasion. The theme for the evening
was 'Light of the World'. The guest speaker, Mr Didier Schott mentioned
the historical significance of the Musketeers being in Royal service and
likewise we should also be in service of the King of Kings. The evening
was unforgettable, with skits, songs, speeches and the customary
exchanging of gifts between the college and the 4th years.
The fourth years each received the
Servant's Towel, a
tradition instituted by the late Rector of the College, Mrs Kay Stegen.

New CCE Campus
Due to the large influx of
students for 2007 and 2008, the need arose to move the College to new
premises. Thus an arrangement was made with Domino Servite School to
exchange their primary school buildings for the current CCE Campus. The
building renovation is still in progress, and Lord willing it will be
ready at the beginning of 2008. For photos of the building progress

4th Year Outreach 2007
The 4th year
tour group have just returned from a two
week tour through Botswana and Namibia. Below is a summary of the
outreaches conducted, followed by some personal impressions.
'Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
His faithful love endures forever.'
6000+ km later and with 'twelve baskets
full' of God's grace and mercy, we can only thank the Lord and let the
whole world know what He has done!
Right from the very beginning, this
outreach was a matter of prayer. During the the preparation, were committed to God in prayer as it was during the peak time of the
South African civil servants' strike!
But God is faithful and provided even
more than what we needed; a brand new Mercedes Vito and camper trailer
were made available to us free of charge! No one fell ill or got hurt,
there were no difficulties at the border posts, we travelled safely
throughout the journey and had very blessed meetings, which included
- Fellowship and stay-over with
friends
- Building new friendships
- Radio and TV interviews
- Interviews and articles with a
magazine
- Meetings with church groups, youth
groups, volunteer workers, orphans, and school pupils
- Street work and home visits to a
desolate people in the Kalahari
- People who made their lives right
with God
The Good News of Jesus Christ was carried
over by means of a puppet show, a play, testimonies, stories, singing,
teaching of songs, church services and individual counselling or by just
living out the life that God has given us, reaching out to others with a
friendly hand.
The those who love nature, the journey
was a feast to observe the variation in God's awesome creation: the
endless stretch of bush veldt, the wide open expanse whipped by clouds
of dust, blue sky and starry nights, red dunes interrupted by sparse
vegetation, rocky mountainous terrain and the abandoned stretches of
sand and gravel. The hospitality of our hosts helped one to understand
Paul's longing to visit other congregations so that they can strengthen
each other's faith.
On our way home, we visited the Moffat
Mission at Kuruman. It was truly an inspiration. For more that 50 years,
Robert Moffat left his country, civilization, family, safety and comfort
to work amongst the Bakwena people and translate the Bible into Setswana.
May God find us likewise faithful when He comes.
A sincere thank you to everyone who
contributed to make this outreach possible - whether by prayer, or
financially, or accommodating and receiving us, or by arranging the
programme and scheduled meetings, or by blessing us with their lives.
May God open the windows of heaven and pour out his showers of blessing.
To God be the Glory!

10th Graduation
The 10th Graduation Ceremony of
CCE was held on 31 March 2007. A total of 16 candidates completed
their studies. Eleven received the degree Bachelor of Education (B.Ed),
4 completed the Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) and one
candidate completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
The graduandi comprise a multicultural group, including students from
Germany, Swaziland, Sudan, Rwanda, as well as the different racial
groups of South Africa. Miss Erika Schartner (a student from Germany and
also the previous primaria) received the Special Award of best student
in Education.
Prof Barry Richter - Director; School for Curriculum Based Studies, came
all the way from North West University (more that 700 km) to do the
presentations and wards. The guest speaker was Mr. D Neuhaus, coordinator
of the Association of Christian School International; (ACSI) in
Francophone Europe.
Rev. Erlo Stegen spoke on the narrow way,
as found in Matt. 7:13,14. (The real sound version as well as a typed
summary will be available). The Brass Band of Domino Servite School as
well as the CCE Choir rendered high quality and enjoyable items. We
thank God that He has brought us this far and we trust Him for our
future, that we will be truly "SANCTUS DEO" - Holy unto the Lord.

First years 2007
History is being rewritten at Cedar College of
Education. This year has seen the largest ever intake of first year
students at CCE. In answer to prayer, God has handpicked twenty-five
first years from all over the world. As always, it's cultural diversity
at its best, with students enrolling from Romania, France, Belgium,
Germany, Rwanda and Lesotho, not to mention the local students
representing the South African rainbow nation. The first year students
form the majority at College, numbering more than the 2nd, 3rd and 4th
years put together.
Truly we see God's hand in
this and with sincerity we say, "Thank you, Father".
